An analogy   3 comments

This just popped into my head:

Being trans is like being right handed, but having to spend every day doing things with your left hand.  Or vice versa, as the case may be.

Think about it – you’re not very good at using your off hand, it’s obvious there’s something wrong with your handwriting.  You have a headache all the time from the wrongness of it.  You’re grumpy all the time because you’re off balance, headachy, and it’s really starting to wear you down. You start to intensely dislike people who can use their hands however they want to.

And the crappy part is when you try to tell someone you really need to be using the other hand, you’d really feel much better if you could switch because something isn’t wired right, everything would be fine if you could just switch hands please, they think you’re nuts.  Even though they make fun of you because you’re clumsy and you have crappy handwriting.

  1. That is a good way to put it. You just want to do what feels natural to you. Now, go have a beer and drink it with whichever hand makes you comfortable. 🙂

  2. That makes so much sense. I really appreciate you sharing your experience with everyone.

  3. Love this analogy.
